140Mafia, Bullies, Whiners, Victims, and what not to do!

December 31, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

I don’t think there is anyone playing 140Mafia, nor has there ever been, that has not at some time felt that they were being bullied by someone! Seriously, if you have never been attacked by someone, relentlessly, regularly and for an extended amount of time, then you have been lucky, I mean lucky to the point of you had better buy a lotto ticket lucky! Getting attacked is part of the game, fighting, getting killed and killing are what people play the game for!

Yes, there were a few of us that got together and started the MobCop thing, and yes, it was done with both a serious and a “for fun” intent. Let me see if I can explain. First, there are way too many people who get bullied in the lower levels by the upper levels and then quit. I define lower levels as 1-50, after that, a player should be getting a grip on how the game works. Players that just can’t cut it, that do not buy properties and weapons to protect themselves and try to advance too fast, are just looking to get beat-up by everyone!

If a player is just getting beat down by their peers that are within like 10 levels each way, not being fully equipped is usually the reason and I suggest that such a player should read the Guide and learn a bit about how the game works, it is really not that complicated. Expensive, yes, but if you are patient, take it one step at a time, you can get there, even without buying Godfather Points!

I know that when it is you, and you are getting hammered by someone, the first thing we all want to do is fight back, it is a natural response, and, just like in real life, if you are not properly equipped, you will get your ass handed to you! In the game, unlike real life, you don’t actually get hurt physically, just emotionally, I know, it is akin to getting spit on or something, and absolutely will make you furious! Been there, done that! No matter how many people told me that I should just let it go, I couldn’t, so, the problem just festered up like an infected stab wound! I was lucky though, the people advising me were of a high enough level, and had enough influence, that the mid-level player that was my attacker, finally just quit kicking my butt!

To summarize what I am trying to say, when you get attacked, do not panic, do not fight back, unless you are equipped to win, and if you do hit back and lose, limit it to that one hit and move on! Take not of the stats from that hit, it will show you the weapons that you both have and how many were used. That is how the game works, you fight, you win, or you lose! Keep it that simple and you won’t make any enemies.

If you get attacked and then go whining about it, or fight back even though you lose, and then start posting a lot of garbage on the forums, and/or on profile pages, not only will your attacker start really hammering you, but, you will make enemies and have everyone start attacking you! Stop playing the victim, stop whining, and start learning!

140Mafia:What gets under my skin!

December 26, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

I have been playing 140Mafia for a few months now, and have finally achieved level 107. I have to admit, there has been a serious learning curve in this game. In the beginning, it was all about MONEY! You have to have cash to buy weapons and property, then, here come the players that are higher levels than you, and they take your cash! At this point of the game, getting your hourly cash flow deposited, before it gets taken, is the main issue.

Once you have gotten past the bully issue and have yourself established with maxed out weapons and mobbies for your level, now, you really become a target! Depending on your style of play, you have either made some friends, or enemies, but, either way, once level 50 has been achieved, the whole game changes, again, IF, you have ALL of your mobbies equipped, and, a steady cash flow!

Now, the focus is on XP, experience points, if you have gotten this far, you understand how the game works, fighting gets you XP, if you fight the right players! If, you are fully maxed out for your level, those below you don’t bother, but, those above you, want to fight, but not to get your cash! If you have a good cash flow, the cash they take doesn’t even bother you, because, you lose more by depositing it than they can take from you! I know, in the beginning, you can’t imagine this, but, once you have, $20,000,000 hourly, over and above your weapons maintainance cost, the 2 or 3 million that could be taken from you is nothing compared to the 20 or 30 million it costs to deposit it!

With all of the above taken in to consideration, what is possibly left to really bug me? The players that dump all of their stamina, hitting you, then, don’t replenish their health so you can hit them back! Then, when they finally do have enough health, you hit them once or twice and they die or go to the hospital! That is what gets under my skin!

Getting past the 140Mafia newbie panic!

December 17, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

How do you get past the newbie panic? Simple, ignore what others are doing! Yes, that is the secret. I know how it is, I was the same way when I started playing, I got totally insane with rage! I was being bullied, bad, and couldn’t grow my cash to buy weapons, because I was getting cleaned out! Now, after playing a while, I see that if you let the cash grow and don’t deposit it, the money will accumulate faster than you think. The key is patience! If you remain steadfast and grow your cash, and wait until you can buy 10 of whatever, it will save you a lot of money.

From level 1-10 cash is scarce, just buy whatever properties you can, and only the weapons you need to do jobs, and remember, the drug deal is the best one for XP, but in the early levels, cash is more important, so get the most cash you can, and invest it! I did a test, did exactly as I said, I didn’t attack anyone, I didn’t post my invite code, nothing, until level 15 or so, by then, I had some cash and started to buy weapons, only the big ones, and started the 140Booster toolbar to get my mob going. I leveled up slowly, making sure that I had the best weapons for each mobster that was added per level. By the time I got to level 25, I had over $20,000,000 in income, and all of my mobbies were maxed with weapons, armor, but not vehicle, I saved my cash and leveled up until the SWAT Bearcat was available, in other words I only had 70 of the Armored Truck and over 200 mobbies!

So, if you want to play where you can grow steadily, just be patient, you cannot get to the top in one night! There is another method, one that is not “nice” you have to become a bully! Yes, it works for some, attack, take money, buy weapons, attack, take money and buy weapons, but, the problem with this is that you have no investments that pay you! I am a bit lazy, yes, I fight, but, I want cash to come in without stealing it from others!

When you level up, do not add any health until you get like 60 energy! Add to your Stamina about once every three levels if you don’t fight much, just grow your attack, defense and energy and you will be fine. As a matter of fact, attack points do count, but defense is less important, I haven’t seen it help too much. In the navbar you will see a link to the guide, or follow that one, this is the only guide of its kind and will help you a lot! Other than that, just remember, be patient, and invest!

Click on this image to see the site

For anybody that is wondering, at the time of this post, the game is still not up, but, it is looking good! Knowing how things work, I will probably hit “Publish” and GoMafia will go live, but, even so, maybe this post will help someone find the game site.

If you haven’t done so yet, go to the GoMafia forum and register, there you can keep up with what is going on and be notified as soon as the game goes live. You can also find links to the GoMafia game site, forum and blog in the sidebar in case you ever need to find it.

I am hoping that this new game will be exactly what we are all looking for in a game. The developers are working hard at getting the game online, but are behind schedule a bit, you know how it is, Murphy’s Law and all of that, once the game goes live, it is not supposed to stop there. GoMafia is planning on a continued development, adding many new features as time goes by. So, when it does go live, be sure to look for me there!

[EDIT 12/17/09 3am central] The site is still not up, but the test page is gone, you can log in, but you can’t play. It won’t be long now!

GoMafia is this the answer?

December 8, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

GoMafia.com is just about ready to launch, is this the answer to solve our problems? I sure hope so, 140Mafia is getting a bit rough. I am not sure what the problem is with LOLPlaying, but something has happened, the server errors are getting really bad. Trying to do anything is like flipping a coin, will it work or will it not! Obviously, no one is keeping an eye on anything! If  no one is watching the forum, the server, or anything, how long can it be until the game just, goes away?

Well, in a few more hours, GoMafia will launch, I have already signed up at the forum and once the game goes live, I am registerring! With 140Mafia, I have used several different accounts, just to learn the game, how to get where I needed to be, as fast as I could, now, I think I am ready for the new one! If you have been reading anything on this site, you know, for the new game, I will only use one, so look for me, join me, it will be great to get in at the very beginning! See yall there!

Is it time for a Revolt? 140Mafia gamers want more!

December 2, 2009 by · 3 Comments

In the last few days there has been a lot of activity on the lolplaying forum, where many of the upper level players are voicing their concerns about the developers of the game, 140Mafia, as a fellow player, I am with them, I have been playing only a couple of months, at a lower level, but I can see where they are coming from.

This site was created for us gamers, a place to hang out, away from LOLplaying’s control, and yes, there are a few members here that have formed the MOB Cops, but I believe that is a futile effort. Why? There is absolutely no way to help from the outside, it must come from the developers of the game. I almost sympathize with the bullies! We all play these games for fun, but what happens once the challenge is gone?

Once a player reaches level 50, if they reach level 50, it is all about buying weapons and getting XP (experience points), which come slowly, and is very boring, from doing jobs, but fighting an opponent that has more weapons than the “ghosts” do, will earn you points, and give you something to do, besides watch the timer for jobs, the problem is, there just aren’t enough players in the upper levels, from about level 100 on up, so, all there is to do is attack lowers or trade XP with another upper.

The demands are simple, add more excitement, add even more weapons, more properties, maybe some free Godfather points or XP bonuses, something to make it as challenging from the beginning at level 1 on up. I think that LOLPLAYING could even profit from it! I have purchased XP points, that I never received, by joining a book club, but, if there were weapons or properties that you had to reach a certain level, AND have a certain amount of Godfather points to redeem. I could think of several ways that the game could be made more exciting for everybody.

Along with more goodies for the upper levels, maybe even XP penalties for attacking the lower levels, that would keep the uppers from attacking, hey, if you lose XP instead of gaining it, why bother, right? Maybe even limiting who can collect on the hit list, if you add someone to the list, you can’t be the one to collect.

As everybody here knows, I have more than one game going, so I can learn it as well as enjoy the challenge, I have one in the low 20′s the 40′s the 60′s and the mid 80′s, and I have to admit, the lower ones are coming up better than the higher ones, because I have learned a few things along the way, and, it is still a challenge, I don’t know what I will do once the fun is gone. For me, reaching level 100 is still a thrill, to get to that level is my goal, but, as anyone will say, the fight list is getting smaller, many players are in my mob, but there are also less players the higher I go, that is why I am with those that want to Revolt! There must be a way to get LOLPLAYING’s attention! They have a good thing that could be even better, for them and us!

Maybe we should create a list of ideas? Surely, someone has already done this, lets put it together as a petition or something, we need to organize a bit and not look like an angry mob, no pun intended, so, post your ideas here, sign up, go to the forum and post your ideas, I am also setting up a petition page, look to the navbar and be sure to sign it!

140 Gamerz have a new Twitter toy to play with, Topsy!

November 12, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Topsy, A search engine powered by tweets, has a plugin for WordPress, that places a button, as you see to the right, that will allow our visitors to see how many times each article has been tweeted, or, retweeted, and will allow our visitors to retweet by clicking it. In case you don’t know who or what Topsy is, below is an excerpt from their website.

“Topsy is a new kind of search engine, with a new way of looking at the Internet. Topsy doesn’t think the Internet is a collection of documents. Or even a web of documents. Topsy sees the Internet as a stream of conversations. Topsy treats people differently from the webpages they create and the things they say. And Topsy sees that people in every community are connected in a web of relationships, where each person influences other people to read, talk and think about things.”

I feel very strongly about Twitter, and anything that adds to it, such as the games we play, because, the “social” scene is just so restrictive, both Facebook and MySpace are wonderful things, if they work for you, and you want to hang-out on their website. Since building WordPress websites is my hobby,   getting people to these sites has gotten more difficult. Back when Google was the only real search engine, and websites were all static, containing boring pictures with links to more boring pictures and some text,  it was easy, just add the right keywords and meta tags, and Google ate it up. Then came Web 2.0, the dynamic websites using databases. MySpace and Facebook were born and that is where everybody went!

Today, those two sites are monsters, with literally millions, if not billions of people, all interacting with the same website, yet not each other, it is all the same, and to me, boring, it is just about the masses trying to hook-up, having to do searches to try and cull out the ones you know, then meet their friends, having to deal with people bugging you to be “friends”, there is no actual community, it is just like a big city where everyone is nameless.

What this site is about is simple, a group of people who share a common interest, Twitter games, and so far, mostly the 140Mafia game. This is why I am so fond of Twitter, it allows everyone to do, whatever it is they do, on any website they wish! Twitter is like a giant pipeline of information, not a mega community, you don’t have to be on the Twitter website to use it. Just like this site, when I hit the publish button, I send this article into that giant flow of data, where anyone anywhere can find it, and, Google can get to it as well, unlike those monster sites. Don’t get me wrong, for those that have a big family, and want a common place to meet or people who are not too passionate about any one subject and just want to interact with somebody, anybody, it is great, I would even consider these to be like a hub that all of the other sites connect to.

I believe that it is a normal thing for like-minded people to want to get together. Though we all have our own individual ways of playing, and that is a great thing about these games, it is still, the same group of people, no matter which game. Actually, since the games started showing up on Facebook and MySpace, I would imagine that Twitter is catching up quick! I see Twitter as the one thing that has actually allowed people to move around without being tethered to one single website. Since Web 2.0 is giving way to Web 3.0, every website can be like an off-ramp on the freeway,  yet, just like cell phones allowed us to move around, Twitter does too, IF, the website are using it.

Now that Twitter has a specialized Search Engine servicing it, Topsy, there is no limit. MySpace and Facebook are so massive, they have their own search capabilities, and yes, they interact with everything else, including  this site, you can post to them by clicking a button, but, it is not the same. Twitter is the future, and Topsy is there to help, you can add the search to your browser, just go try it, you’ll see what I mean.

I do have to admit, so far, I see but one issue, each and every article on this website have been tweeted, but, Topsy is not indicating all of them on those buttons,  yet, it is a bit slow, I found this out adding Topsy to other websites with older posts, and as soon as the plugin was activated, the buttons showed Tweets for those articles, oh well, I am sure this will improve.

140 Mafia:What to do if you are being attacked by a bully

November 11, 2009 by · 1 Comment

Getting attacked by a bully is just part of the game, it is going to happen, if it hasn’t happened to you, it will. I don’t want to sound negative, it is just a reality. I have only been playing for about a month at the time I am writing this, and I have had numerous bullies attack me, and, through the advice of others, many of whom are members of this site, I have learned a few things, but, I am sure that there is plenty more to learn, and hopefully, others will add to this by posting a reply in the forum to this topic.

  1. First, ask yourself, is this a bully, or is this just a player doing what the game is all about, fighting, taking your money, and killing. Build up your firepower, buy properties, grow your mob, find others that you can beat to fight, look at the stats, if they are your level and have a losing record, and no weapons that out-power yours, that’s easy money to build up with, not to mention XP (experience points) to level up with, just make sure you invest in properties so that you can make money while away from the game. You’ll notice, when you find a good one and get paid $70,000 per hit, yes, that is the max, but they are getting whacked for $100,000 just like you do, that is just how it works.
  2. Second, go take a look at the attackers profile page, if this is a bully, you may find others that have posted there on the bully’s profile, but DO NOT POST ANYTHING on their profile, yet! If they are hitting, then posting an invite, accept it, then, post your invite on their profile.
  3. Third, follow the links to others that have posted on that attackers profile, see if you can get a feel for what is being discussed there, see if there has been anyone else that got involved to stop the attacker from being a bully, if so, remember that “helper’s” name, you may need to ask them what is going on.
  4. Fourth, be patient! Yes, just hide and watch, do absolutely nothing! In many cases, the bully likes the confrontation, it is more than just a game to them, they enjoy the pain and suffering that they are dealing out, so, if you do nothing, they aren’t getting what they are after, and will just go away. Do not send them an invite, they may use this as an excuse to attack!
  5. If the attacker hits you, and you look at their profile, and they are of a level that is way higher than yours, like a 30 vs 100 scenario, and you don’t see any arguments on their profile page, this is probably just someone playing through, and you just happened to be the one they hit, in this case, what I do, is post a quick note on their profile, like “ouch!” Many times they will reply on your profile with, something like “sorry, needed XP (experience points)”, if that happens, send them an invite, you may just get a new member for your family. If they attack again, go back to number 4 and ignore them.
  6. If your situation with the attacker gets worse, then, ask them nicely to stop, DO NOT GET IN THEIR FACE, if the nice request to stop doesn’t work, and they are already attacking you, multiple times, maybe even every day, simply send them an invite and ask them to join you, again, NICELY, something like “you win, I give, join my mob, I need someone like you on my side”, usually, by this point you are getting really mad, but don’t show it, if this nice approach still doesn’t work, and ignoring them doesn’t work, move on to the next step.
  7. If you found someone who is helping another player, odds are, the one that they are trying to stop, is replying to them on their profile as well, they may assist you too, so watch what you say, but let that “mediator” know that the same guy is bullying you, if you do, that mediator may have a friend or two that they will get involved to help, either way, if they are dealing with the bully, go back to number 4, and just ignore them, do not get in the argument, if they have another fight going, they may just forget about you and move on. If not, just keep on ignoring, do not post on their profile, do not tell them anything. If you have done all of the above and haven’t been able to grow strong enough to win when they attack, and you are just about to quit the game, then, and only then, come here and post a Bully Report.  Fill out the form and put as much information as you can, it will help. You must register here and fill out the profile, with as much info as you can, a real email address, and, your profile link, that way the Mob Cop can contact you here with a PM (private message).
  8. Once you have filed a Bully Report, and a Mob Cop has contacted you, follow their instructions, which will probably be continue with number 4, BE PATIENT! What will happen next? The Mob Cop will do an investigation, if you have provided good information, it will go faster, but, the Mob Cop will handle it as best as possible. No, Mob Cops are not part of the game or able to do miracles, they are just like you, but have been here playing for a long time, and have a lot of experience dealing with this, so, just keep on playing, buying and growing, one way or another, it will work out, the bully will move on and you can get on with the game. Once you get strong enough, and to a high enough level, you will be looking for people to fight! Just have fun!

I invite anyone reading this to post your comments, replies in the forum work best, so follow that link that will take you there. Make sure you invite your friends here, this place is here to be a hangout for all of us, even though the game is about fighting, this site is about just hanging out and making friends, you never know, maybe eventually, you and the bully can be friends?

Changes to registration

November 10, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

This is very important, please read this. When you register, you will be directed to the profile page. There you will be required to add your “Game Profile Link” what that is is simple, it looks like this http://140mafia.com/profile?id=YOURPROFILE NAME  You may wonder why? it makes it easier for everyone to find you, should they need to drop a quick note on your profile page. Your avatar links to your profile page when you have the URL in place. In the past, no one added anything in this field, all members that registered prior to this post, don’t worry about it, I did it for you.

Should this be a problem, I can change it back, post a comment or reply if you don’t like the idea. Thanks everybody, I think this will be a good thing and make it easier on us all. Also, don’t forget to post your invite codes in the recruiting section, this canbe a good source of members if you use it. Have a good one!
