140 Mafia:What to do if you are being attacked by a bully
November 11, 2009 by OpinionHead · 1 Comment
Getting attacked by a bully is just part of the game, it is going to happen, if it hasn’t happened to you, it will. I don’t want to sound negative, it is just a reality. I have only been playing for about a month at the time I am writing this, and I have had numerous bullies attack me, and, through the advice of others, many of whom are members of this site, I have learned a few things, but, I am sure that there is plenty more to learn, and hopefully, others will add to this by posting a reply in the forum to this topic.
- First, ask yourself, is this a bully, or is this just a player doing what the game is all about, fighting, taking your money, and killing. Build up your firepower, buy properties, grow your mob, find others that you can beat to fight, look at the stats, if they are your level and have a losing record, and no weapons that out-power yours, that’s easy money to build up with, not to mention XP (experience points) to level up with, just make sure you invest in properties so that you can make money while away from the game. You’ll notice, when you find a good one and get paid $70,000 per hit, yes, that is the max, but they are getting whacked for $100,000 just like you do, that is just how it works.
- Second, go take a look at the attackers profile page, if this is a bully, you may find others that have posted there on the bully’s profile, but DO NOT POST ANYTHING on their profile, yet! If they are hitting, then posting an invite, accept it, then, post your invite on their profile.
- Third, follow the links to others that have posted on that attackers profile, see if you can get a feel for what is being discussed there, see if there has been anyone else that got involved to stop the attacker from being a bully, if so, remember that “helper’s” name, you may need to ask them what is going on.
- Fourth, be patient! Yes, just hide and watch, do absolutely nothing! In many cases, the bully likes the confrontation, it is more than just a game to them, they enjoy the pain and suffering that they are dealing out, so, if you do nothing, they aren’t getting what they are after, and will just go away. Do not send them an invite, they may use this as an excuse to attack!
- If the attacker hits you, and you look at their profile, and they are of a level that is way higher than yours, like a 30 vs 100 scenario, and you don’t see any arguments on their profile page, this is probably just someone playing through, and you just happened to be the one they hit, in this case, what I do, is post a quick note on their profile, like “ouch!” Many times they will reply on your profile with, something like “sorry, needed XP (experience points)”, if that happens, send them an invite, you may just get a new member for your family. If they attack again, go back to number 4 and ignore them.
- If your situation with the attacker gets worse, then, ask them nicely to stop, DO NOT GET IN THEIR FACE, if the nice request to stop doesn’t work, and they are already attacking you, multiple times, maybe even every day, simply send them an invite and ask them to join you, again, NICELY, something like “you win, I give, join my mob, I need someone like you on my side”, usually, by this point you are getting really mad, but don’t show it, if this nice approach still doesn’t work, and ignoring them doesn’t work, move on to the next step.
- If you found someone who is helping another player, odds are, the one that they are trying to stop, is replying to them on their profile as well, they may assist you too, so watch what you say, but let that “mediator” know that the same guy is bullying you, if you do, that mediator may have a friend or two that they will get involved to help, either way, if they are dealing with the bully, go back to number 4, and just ignore them, do not get in the argument, if they have another fight going, they may just forget about you and move on. If not, just keep on ignoring, do not post on their profile, do not tell them anything. If you have done all of the above and haven’t been able to grow strong enough to win when they attack, and you are just about to quit the game, then, and only then, come here and post a Bully Report. Fill out the form and put as much information as you can, it will help. You must register here and fill out the profile, with as much info as you can, a real email address, and, your profile link, that way the Mob Cop can contact you here with a PM (private message).
- Once you have filed a Bully Report, and a Mob Cop has contacted you, follow their instructions, which will probably be continue with number 4, BE PATIENT! What will happen next? The Mob Cop will do an investigation, if you have provided good information, it will go faster, but, the Mob Cop will handle it as best as possible. No, Mob Cops are not part of the game or able to do miracles, they are just like you, but have been here playing for a long time, and have a lot of experience dealing with this, so, just keep on playing, buying and growing, one way or another, it will work out, the bully will move on and you can get on with the game. Once you get strong enough, and to a high enough level, you will be looking for people to fight! Just have fun!
I invite anyone reading this to post your comments, replies in the forum work best, so follow that link that will take you there. Make sure you invite your friends here, this place is here to be a hangout for all of us, even though the game is about fighting, this site is about just hanging out and making friends, you never know, maybe eventually, you and the bully can be friends?

This is very important, please read this. When you register, you will be directed to the profile page. There you will be required to add your “Game Profile Link” what that is is simple, it looks like this http://140mafia.com/profile?id=YOURPROFILE NAME You may wonder why? it makes it easier for everyone to find you, should they need to drop a quick note on your profile page. Your avatar links to your profile page when you have the URL in place. In the past, no one added anything in this field, all members that registered prior to this post, don’t worry about it, I did it for you.
Should this be a problem, I can change it back, post a comment or reply if you don’t like the idea. Thanks everybody, I think this will be a good thing and make it easier on us all. Also, don’t forget to post your invite codes in the recruiting section, this canbe a good source of members if you use it. Have a good one!
Mob Cop Instructions and Procedures
November 9, 2009 by OpinionHead · 5 Comments
At this time, we have several Mob Cops (MCs) on patrol, thanks for participating, I am sure that what we are doing will help the lower level players deal with the “uppers” that bully them. As I understand what our goal is, it is primarily to help the lower levels, since the upper levels should be able to take care of themselves, but, if an incident occurs that one of you feel you may be able to take care of, that is up to you.
What we need to do is come up with a basic plan on how we should respond, what exactly do we do when a report is filed? How do we even know a report has been filed? Who should respond, who should wait? This is the reason for this post, a place for all of us to put our collective heads together and work out a plan, below, I will lay out what I have done with this site, and what it will do. Just remember, simple is the operative word here, remember the old acronym, K.I.S.S. , Keep It Simple Stupid!
- As of now, the Bully Report form is functional, when a member of this site, fills out the form, (always check the members list to verify), it generates the post which is found in a hidden category, no one can see it but the MCs. When you get to this category page, always refresh it, this is what will pull in any new reports.
- Inside the same hidden category is another form, this is called Mob Cop Reports, this is where the MCs can report that they have taken the case, or can request back-up, if necessary. This should limit the confusion a bit. Please remember, the Bully Reports show up beneath this form, so scroll down to see them. Again, remember to refresh the page.
- In the forum, there is a hidden category where you can discuss each incident, just create, if need be,within that hidden forum, a new topic, using the name of the Reporting User, again, this will keep the confusion down to a minimum.
- Here is where it gets complicated, for the MCs to be notified, there has to be a Dispatcher of sorts, I think we should all fill this role, this can be a simple matter, when the first MC see the Bully Report, and fills out the MC Report, anyone coming in behind them will see this MC report and not duplicate the next step.
- Once a Mob Cop has filed their report, this MC should post a reply, in the forum, under the Mob Cop Meeting Place, to the Mob Cop Reports topic. Sounds worse than it is, if you are a MC, but, this is being the dispatcher, as long as ALL MOB COPS are Subscribed and Watching that topic. (I’d put a link here, but Google might get mad as it would appear as a broken link, however, there is one in the Mob Cop Reports post, here in the blog, under the Bully Reports category.) After you read this, go to the forum, look for the Mob Cop meeting place, you will find this topic, make sure that you both Subscribe to and Watch this topic in the forum. Also, in case you haven’t yet, look at the top navigation bar, you will see CATEGORIES, mouse down to Anti Bully Task Force, as you mouse over this, an additional category will appear, called Bully Reports I am repeating this to help make it more clear. Once you have done it, it is very easy.
I hope that this clears up how the site works, now on to what happens after both the Victim and the Mob Cop have filed their reports.
- Step one, investigate. Go to the alleged bully’s profile and see if the victim has asked them to stop. Look and see if others have had the same problem. Go to the profiles of the victim and any others that may have posted there, see if there is a pattern. Verify that this is not just part of the game, some players may just be upset that they got attacked! Ask the reporting victim how often etc, we do not want to be bullies ourselves.
- Step two, if there has been no request by the victim to stop, advise them to do so, at this point we should only be monitoring the situation, do not irritate the situation by getting in a fight.
- Step three, If the situation has not been resolved, then ask the bully to stop, do not get ugly and start a fight, just be polite and ask them nicely. If this does not work, ask a fellow MC to do the same, maybe two or more will be enough to convince them to play nice, if not, move on to the next step.
- Step four, may never happen, if the victim and bully work it out, but, if they don’t, see step 3 in the top section, create a new topic with the report info as a title, and call in your fellow Mob Cops to discuss what you have found out, and how to proceed.
- Step five, once all else has failed, and the Mob Cops have met and discussed the incident, it is time to act upon that decision, and distribute the Mob Cop Justice.
- Once resolved, file a follow-up Report to let the others know that it is over, no use in stirring up a new problem.
Ok, that is my view, now, the discussion is open, we can always change, remove or add to anything. After all, this is a new idea, and we all need to get the details worked out. We don’t want to become bullies, or have everybody avoid us. This game is all for fun, and all we should be doing is to help keep it that way so that players don’t just quit. From what I hear it is lonely at the top, I hope that we can get more to work their way up!
Anyway, have at it, if you post replies here in the blog, they will only show up here, but if you follow the link to the forum, and post your reply there, it will be in both places. Though it may seem like this post is only for the Mob Cops, everyone should post their ideas, we want any and everybody to know and participate, that in itself my stop some of the bullies. Have fun!
Mob Cops are on the watch, Bullies look out!

Calling all Mob Cops, the reporting system is now Live! In the top Navbar, you will see the link, Report a Bully, if you have been wrongfully attacked, for a sustained period, asked the bully to stop, and the bully is a significantly higher level than you, just file a report! The reports are hidden and only visible to the Mob Cops, so don’t worry about retaliation. Below is our guideline
- At this time Mob Cops are only for the 140Mafia Game.
- The Bully is of a level at least 30% higher than yours.
- You have asked the Bully to stop.
- The Bully has attacked on multiple dates and multiple hits per attack.
- You have not provoked or encouraged the bully by consistently fighting back.
- You are prepared to accept a mediator to assist in resolving the issue.
- You are not just a whiner, upset by getting beat.
- Once a mediator has been involved, you need to file a status change report.
No, this is not an official part of the game, just a few volunteers that may be able to help you. Since this game is all about fighting and killing, it is a bit tough to take sides, but we know that there are a few cases where the Bully is just relentless, and that is where we may be able to help.
No, we are not an assassination squad, or anything like that, just fellow players that are willing to help. We know that the higher levels will attack the lowers, that is a part of the game, we all need XP (Experience Points), to move up from level to level, so don’t be a whiner, get more weapons, and ignore the bully if possible, usually they will just hit you a few times then go, but there are cases where they don’t, if that is the case, please report it.
If you are interested in being a Mob Cop, send me a PM in the forum, tell me, you want to help, we need members at various levels, a level 300, is maybe a bit much to mediate a level 40 Bully, but a level 60 could get involved, so, whatever your level, if you wish to help, let me know.
What is the payoff? What exactly is our goal?
November 5, 2009 by OpinionHead · Leave a Comment
Share your reasons for playing, maybe you can tell someone something that will get more people interested, maybe you can remind someone else of why they started, and slow down the rate of people quitting vs staying.
I am sure that our individual lists of reasons for playing these games, when viewed collectively, is one big tangled mess, that overlaps and twists into something that must have at least one thing in common. Could it be that boredom had something to do with it? Could it be the need for the company of other people, even if this company is filled with battles and killing?
I have to apologize, I am one of those that is so analytical, I must find a reason for everything, there always is one, right? Well, if there is, I cannot find it! When I started playing, that very first time, I was a bit tired of what I had been doing, and thought maybe this would be a fun thing for a few minutes, just a brief fling with something that I have always thought to be a waste of time, games. So, admittedly, I am not a gamer, what in the world happened? How did I get hooked? Why do I play? Why do you play? What is it about this game?
If this were a game like checkers, or even poker, the goal is obvious, to win, but, this game has no single winner! Is that it, we can all win a little bit here and there and that keeps us going? If you had to tell someone, why you play the 140Mafia game, or any of these Twitter games, what would you tell them? There is no payoff other than getting on a list, an maybe making a friend or two, which are not bad things, but the internet is full of other ways to do the same thing, so, why this? Well, at first, I was crazy, trying to grow wealth, and power as fast as I could, but, now I think that for me, what this game has to offer is the ability to play, even when I am not playing! I can go about my daily routine, then stop off and check the game, buy some weapons or property, and fight a bit, then, go back to what I was doing before, and start all over again. Could this be it?
By the way, does anyone know why the “scoreboard” has the top of everything listed, except levels? What is the highest level attained so far?
140 Mafia: Mobs and families, do they really look out for you?
November 2, 2009 by OpinionHead · 1 Comment
What happens when you join a family? Once you invite someone, or accept their invite, what happens? One thing, your mob size gets bigger, that is pretty much it. In this game, size does matter, (see this Mob Size table), but not in the way that you may think. the table refered to shows what mob size does mean in this game, now, I am going to tell you what it doesn’t mean.
We have all seen the Mob movies, once you are in the family, thats it, you are a made man, or woman, as the case may be, and if one family kills someone from another, the latter then would retaliate and attack the former, that is how the mob works, right? Well, when a new player starts off in this game, and the inevitable attacks start, the first thing one thinks of, is contacting a family member for help, for that retaliation, but, you quickly learn that is not how the families work in this game for the most part, you are on your own, unless, you happen to find one of the few players that I know of, that may come to your rescue, but only if the attacking player is quite a few levels above you. After all, that is what this game is all about, fighting and killing, but, once you have been playing a while, these angels of mercy become apparent, all you have to do is see some of the “help requests” on their profile pages, and the ensuing conversations. As someone who has received help, (a higher level attacking me as a lower level for several days in a row), I can tell you this, it is not like in the movies!
Since there is no limit as to who may be in your family, the “bad guy” could be in the “good guy’s” family, this person could be a nice person to them and maybe it just happened to be a bad day and you were the one to step in it. Let me tell you, you will get attacked, you will get attacked by the higher levels, and, in most cases, this attack could just be them checking you out, in others, maybe they just need some quick cash, or maybe just a couple of experience points to get to a higher level, but, in any case, it will make you mad!
From the beginning until you get to where you have a decent hourly income, any attack that takes money from you can be devastating, emotionally, if you are a passionate person, meaning you have a short temper, in this case, it can make you just want to quit or smash your computer! As you play, and move from level to level, you will see the players that do give up, recognized by the familiar “deleted user” in a post on a profile. I have to admit, I thought about it, but, I am a hard headed, never say die kind of opinionated butt-head and I was a lot closer to smashing my laptop than I was to quitting! (This is one of the reasons I was looking for a guide as to how to handle the problem I was having.) However, the thought did cross my mind. Just remember, if you stick with it, in most cases, the person will get bored and move on, all you can do is keep saving, keep buying properties and equipment, and keep leveling up, then, before you know it, you will be at a level where you can hold your own! Just don’t become one of those bullies!
What if we had an all volunteer Anti Bully Task Force? I mean for the 140 Mafia game, I don’t know if it is the same in the other games, but 140Mafia looks like it is losing a lot of players, probably for the same reasons of getting hammered by so many upper level bullies. I have read so many profiles with the same story, the same bullies beating up on people until they finally quit. After all, even the real Mob has enforcers, that protect their families, right?
